Tom is an experienced technologist, entrepreneur, and general manager.
Prior to joining Woodside, he was an investor and advisor to startup
technology companies for two years, working closely with entrepreneurs
on technology assessment, market positioning, and recruiting.
In 1995, Tom co-founded NetGravity which became the leading provider
of application software for Internet advertising. As VP of Engineering,
then CTO, Tom was responsible for NetGravity's development team
and architecture, producing mission-critical real-time enterprise
software that was successfully deployed at over 300 customer network
operations centers. NetGravity went public in 1998, and was then
acquired by rival DoubleClick. During this period, Tom chaired Internet
advertising industry standards committees and authored several technical
standards.
Prior to NetGravity, Tom was a development manager at Oracle for
four years, and was a member of two technology startups. He received
a BA in Computer Science with honors from Harvard College. Tom performs
with a cappella groups around the San Francisco Bay Area, and enjoys
hiking, kayaking, sailing, and diving.
Tom Shields is currently CEO of a Woodside Fund-backed company,
Yieldex.
